Given the number of reports of Sonoff's charring inside the casing, I think that I will give them a miss. CE marked equipment costs more because of the rigorous testing and standards that they are built to. Equipment imported directly from China often circumvents many of those quality / safety checks, that is why they are so cheap.

Now we are hearing the downside which IMO is far more important
If that is the price structure and business plan going forward then they can forget it

Lightwave RF switches don't need a neutral wire but they do need a bridge
AFAIK GLS touch switches don't need a neutral or a bridge

I replaced my cinema room lightswitch for a Broadlink 1 gang no neutral required I just used a light switch spacer to add depth to the backbox
The RF plugin sockets cost me less than £4.00 each
A cheap Broadlink RM Pro as a hub

This will do me for now until early adopter have had their fill and manufacturers recoup some of there costs and finally get a reality check on acceptable pricing for the majority of consumers

I can't dispute the claims, though I can only supply my own anecdotal evidence with positive results. Even at £15 (let's assume CE sign-off added 50% to RRSP), they still make the Den look severely overpriced.

I agree especially as much of the initial start-up cost was met via crowd-source funding. If Lightwave RF had brought out their updated products a few years earlier (with device feedback) and some more aesthetically pleasing switches they would have dominated the UK market. I am surprised that Philips haven't brought out a Hue UK Format lightswitch, using their technology. They would still sell bulbs, as lightswitches cant colour change.

Agree on the fitting style. Mine are all the square edge MK fittings and the new ones won’t really go and wouldn’t be my choice.  That said as long as I can get some relatively cheap matching socket and switches I’d be happy.  Who know maybe they’ll offer different styles a while down the line.

Sonoff are not reliable enough in my opinion to rely on forever (although what is) I’ve got friends who’ve lost control of their sonoff devices totally a number of times and whilst that fine for devices you rarely use, a light switch not functioning would be a bit of a weston

For me, switches ARE the way forward as then the cost of bulbs drops to a few £s which is always a benefit unless you have the need for a myriad of colours.

As mentioned previously, surely no one can think 13 HUE GU10s would ever be a worthwhile purchase and that’s before adapting switches as well.

As mentioned previously - I can be happy with what mine are doing, and even in the event of losing WiFi connection (previous broadband before Fibre was a pain), losing connection doesn't render the light useless - the touch-switches still work just fine.

Agreed on the in-line devices (cut the wire, install the module), but it's not a killer, other than losing voice control/schedules on a main light for me otherwise.

As with all devices, if we could assess the volume of issues against the total volume sold, I'm sure it would be comparable to other brands/methods.

It remains to be seen how Den manage to make their light switches smart without the neutral wire - I shall remain curious for now, as it is only fair until proven otherwise.
