It's more detailed with a better soundstage than the Marantz. It's not that the Marantz is poor at what it does, it's just that this Denon is so damn good. At the moment I'm listening to Dylan's Blood on the Tracks SACD and it's soundstage is certainly wider than on the Marantz with more instrumental separation. This is through my Lehmann Linear and Shure 1540 closed back headphones.

It suits the Lehmann Linear so well, still only have it running through the headphone amp with the Marantz running through the Rega. I'm going to keep it with the Lehmann for the foreseeable future as I just love late nights with it and the Oppo PM1s.

I must stop this impulse buying.

I do love that Rega and it does suit the Marantz's nature being quite a neutral amp. The Lehmann itself is a stella performer. Problem I have is that I have to have at least one player close to our conservatory and that's where the wife's exercise bike is and she likes to listen to music when she's on it. It's really too far away from the main set up to use long headphone leads. Hence the need for two players.

The Denon is set to replace my Simaudio CD Transport and DAC, both are over 8 years old and a little long in the tooth now...

I looked at streaming and network players but I have never found one that sounds as good as a quality CD player, plus I like CD's and hate computer audio!

Pains me to admit it, but you may be right on this occasion!

Any recommendations of some good SACD's to get me started?

Have my eyes on the new MOFI Dire Straits albums at the moment...

I've got the Mercury 20th Anniversary edition of Brothers, only paid £12.50 for it. The recent MoFi are getting good reviews. Another well priced pair are the Art Garfunkel albums available from Duttonvocalion. Plenty available and the best place to look is Discogs where the average price of a mint, often sealed disc, averages around £30. I would avoid Amazon Market Place as the prices tend to be higher on there.

If you are into classical then those titles, again from Dutton, can be much easier on the pocket and there seems to be new titles almost every week.
