you need a fairly decent webcam as it needs to have a high resolution to track your face. I gave it a go but couldnt calibrate it properly

Thinking about going for Dirt 3 and F1 2012 now, but I am apprehensive.

The last time I tried a simulation genre was Flight Sims, and I ended up with Trackir and an X52 Pro. Don't think my room can get anymore geeky.

I've got a Logitech C270, which isn't on the compatibility list but I quick Google indicates that it should work.

I got FaceTrackNoIR working and it's surprisingly good. Not sure if I want to race with it on all the time but it's definitely something I will use. Just needs quite a bit of tweaking to get it feeling right.

Tried it myself just last night with my PS3 camera and rFactor 2 and I was surprised by the fact that I actually got it working and also the fact that it's actually quite good.

Seems to be really helpful for long corners when you can spot your exit that bit earlier.

Downloaded DIRT 3 last night to try with Eyefinity and TrackIR. Using my Xbox 360 pad as I don't have a wheel/pedals and it was... interesting.

Although pretty cool it became quickly apparent I needed to readjust my TrackIR settings. Obviously with 2 monitors I can basically see other cars anyway when turning my head so what I did was turn down the sensitivity which gave it a very realistic feeling to it.

With that said there didn't seem to be much of a 'need' for TrackIR in Dirt 3 even if it was fun. Doesn't help that Dirt 3 isn't really my type of game, but I may give it another go in the future.

Yes, I was surprised how simple it is to set up as well. The UI looks complicated but the camera picks up your face automatically without any need for calibration or anything, so it's plug-and-play to start with.

The curves needed a lot of adjusting for my tastes and I disabled all the translations and pitch completely. Just used yaw and a tiny bit of roll with big deadzones so it's not constantly moving around.

My only gripe is the response to head movements is quite laggy and a bit jerky. Increasing smoothing makes the lag worse. I guess it's the limitations of using face recognition over IR, but for a free program it's still very good.

I might try Free Track, although that requires DIY IR sensors to work.

I didn't spend a whole lot of time with settings, it was late last night when I got it up and running. I'll have to read up a bit and try to get my head around the setup!

Any chance you could post a screenshot or two of your settings?

Yeah can do, although I haven't really settled on anything yet. Still playing around with the curves.
