I thought it was 1st April at first when I saw this...

Nintendo Announces 2DS - IGN

Not sure what Nintendo were thinking when they decided to actually sell this thing. Have they forgot the 3DS has a slider and ability to parental lock the 3D?

Absolutely disgusting but I'll definitely be buying.

Perfect for my foster brother who's birthday is next month.

£109 is a steal and it looks kid friendly (kind of chunky!!) and it's affordable.

He'll stop stealing mine now Don't quote know how you're meant to reach the shoulder buttons though?

I absolutely cannot see the point of this device.

I *could* see the point if it had the screens (or at lease similar size ones) from the 3DS XL, but the screens (in side-by-side pictures I've seen) are almost exactly the same size as those on the original 3DS.

It's aimed at younger children... but looks difficult to hold, and lacks the screen protection you get with a clamshell. Yes, there's no hinges to break, but if it's harder to hold and lacks screen protection, I can see more broken screens.

Personally I'd have preferred a 3DS XL without the 3D upper screen, for the price of this nonsensical 2DS.

With this, and the new Wii Mini, I think Nintendo are losing the plot again.

You can get a normal 3DS for that price, you'd have the protection of clamshell and could turn off / lock the 3D?

I'd rather pay £28 more and just get the original 3DS which is fold-able and comfy to hold.

Nintendo have been losing the plot ever increasingly over the past year. Who approves the release of these terrible products?

Nintendo must have too much money, that's all I can put it down to as they seem hellbent on confusing consumers. Let's see how marketing 3ds games which are also 2ds compatible goes for them.

I agree on your point of having a 3DS XL instead of 2DS but disagree with your point of the Wii Mini etc  Nothing wrong with releasing a Wii Mini especially when Sony and Microsoft have released different versions of PS3/Xbox360 and just about every other manufacturer that releases revised hardware they sell.  It gives people a wider choice - after all, you don't hear of or see folk still viewing their old black n white TVs do you - they upgrade to a different/better model.  A  lot of people welcome change, even if it's a slightly different look etc.  If Nintendo are losing the plot, then so is every other electronic manufacturer out there when they introduce a 'modified' version of one of their products.
