i like jhalfrazie (spelling ?) kind of hot (now i realise that one restaurant differs immensely from the next)  but i wouldn't mind some recommendations please

Much depends on th curry house, but I too am a Jalfrezi fan.  Looking for a bit more "bite", I stepped upto a Vindaloo.  Not much of a step up, but nonethelss good!

Also, ask them to do A Rogan Josh at Jalfrezi strength.  Nice alternative!

It depends on the menu, different restaurants do different curries, and even then different chefs can be from different regions...

Some curries you'd probably like if they do them:

Madras - Quite hot most people know a madras...
Vindaloo - as stated above a bit hotter not too much so also good.
Ceylon - Usually a coconut based curry with a nice kick - goes very well with lamb
Pathia - Usually a sweet and sour kind madras hot
Rogan Josh - Really tasty not quite as hot
Roshun - Quite garlicy medium hot
Chicken Chilli Massala - Like a chicken tikka massala but with a kick to it

If you feel adventurous ask what the staff curry is for the night, most restaurants will do a staff curry what they give to the staff it's usually very very good
Also if you like a mild dish or a dish you usually have you can get it done "indian style" which is basically with more spice and kick to it, depending on the restaurant.
Most restaurants dull them down for the public who aren't too fond of the hot dishes.

Enjoy your curry

I always like to try the house Murgh Mossallam ..... very nice tasting, medium strength, a curry with a difference as its usually mincemeat and egg!

I love it ... just that with a naan bread .... WOW

(and a mixed kebab starter of course!)
