£50 per person?  you are having a laugh right.

in top chinese restaurants you can get 3 course meals for under £25, and they have a lot more overheads.

also are you chinese?  if i were to pay for some one to come to my house and cook authentic chinese food for a dinner party i would want them to actually be chinese and dress like they would in a top chinese restaurant in China, that way it has more of an authentic feel to it, and maybe they can share things about there culture which could warrent charging that little bit extra and could actually be interesting

Agree with all of this except that they would have to "dress like they would in a top Chinese restaurant in China" as I don't know what this would add at all

I think the op is saying that he would serve food different to what you get in a takeaway, or a restaurant as we know it.

I think it would be great. But you'd have to include beverages for that price as it's an unknown food experience and these things sway people.

Then if you really do attract peoples attention and news spreads from word of mouth you'll be the name of authentic cuisine.

I'd suggest offering the service small scale, or at cost and ask people to complete a survey which includes what you'd be willing to pay. Even if you only break even, or lose a bit you'd have an idea whether or not people would pay for it.

Maybe rephrase the question?

If you'd pay £50 a head in a restaurant, would you pay the same to have the chef cook it in your house?  And would you expect the same or better level of food and service?

I'd like to know what you mean by authentic too.

I spent a couple of months in China eating in all kinds of places from small tea rooms to supposedly top class traditional restaurants. Personally, I found the cuisine to be fairly bland and uninspiring. However this was reflected in the price, where I usually paid less than 5 quid for the entire meal.

If you are talking about the overly sweet and colourful crap they serve in the vast majority of takeaways in the UK, then 50 quid a head is completely over the top. You can have a set menu in many places for half that.

I'd rather go out.

A very nice and well respected restaurant near us (Cerruti's in Hull) does something similar called the dining experience. You get the services of a chef for approx 4.5 hrs and a starter , main and dessert comes in at approx £35 to £40 per head. I certainly wouldn't pay more than that and have to agree £50pp is far too much , for Chinese I probably wouldn't pay more than £30pp. How do you arrive at a figure of £50pp anyway?

Yet we still don't know the basics, such as where are they going to cook /prepare it?
Mobile catering wagon parked outside and walk in with the dishes, or use the clients kitchen, or perhaps portable gas cookers on wheels?
