Langar  as its called is not a curry, it's vegetarian by nature, designed to served to the masses without any real spice. It's in essence supposed to feed the poor? It's hardly where you would take your friends for a meal.

Spot on. One of the first things we were taught is it's a good thing to share food. Anyone would be welcome at a Gurdwara although you need to observe some conventions, shoes off, head covered, sobriety, which is hardly onerous.

Being a Sikh I go to a lot of Gurdwaras up and down the Country and I'd say the food is always good, restricted to vegetarian food as you say and simple but it's always good quality. At my two local gurdwaras the food is better than that churned out at the award winning curry house on the high street near us.

Sorry, not implying food quality is poor. I was merely staying that its not weekend food as its restricted to be TASTY but simple.

Also, most smaller gurdwaras will only serve langar at certain times of the day as they don't run the kitchen constantly.  But it's worth trying once at least if you're not a Sikh. And Sikhs are generally very friendly, generous hosts to those of other faiths. Come one, come all.

I would never hold of behaviour of an individual to represent the attitude of a group. Sikhs, Muslims, Atheists, Jews etc all the same.

Good for you but I don't get the relevance. I am trying to point out that gurdwaras and the Sikhs who run them are welcoming of people of any background coming in to partake in the food they offer.

But that's not what the thread is about, it's simply about what us the yardstick for a decent curry, not a mosque church or gurdwala. They are irrelevant and off topic. I watch a program last night, it was about cooking a chicken balti ( in Pakistan) "punjabi" style and I liked the end result but was more interested in the slight variation if the dish.

Umm, you kept the discussion on langar going before I added (as someone is of Sikh heritage) a small point. Why jump down my throat?

Bowing out and unsubscribing from this thread as I've seen your past form for overreacting.

The Prashad has deserted Bratfud for Drighlington.

Have you tried The Bharat on Great Horton Road? Superb food.
