I'm in Mumbai and with few exception Indian food here is rubbish as agreed by the locals.
Get much better Indian food in London and other UK cities (Brum , Bradford , hell even Glasgow).
Think I eat more curries in UK than in India and as for being authentic with the exception of a Hyderabadi Biryiani its more authentic in the Uk from what I've been told.
It's not just Indians who consume similar food. We as Pakhtana eat food made in very similar cooking fashion. It's a sub Asian food not exclusive to India.
indeed...but maybe worth checking the date of inspection as it could well be out of date...as I said in my original post - the low marking chinese takeaway has since been refurb'd so I assume that's upto a 4/5 now...
We have an indian takeaway/restaurant in our town (went to once - was rubbish on every level, although seemed clean) which actually scored ZERO on FSA - they had not one single redeeming hygene quality or process.
Oh god, only a cursory glance at that website and it shows just about every place we like 'required improvement'.
Of course, I couldn't (quickly) see what that amounted to.
Could be rat droppings everywhere, could just be stuff being stored on wrong shelves...
Did I miss some way of seeing more detail?
My family are from the Punjab and when we used to visit in the past we were discouraged from eating out. We used to make something at home and take it with us and the only place we ate outside was at a Guduwara. Nowadays there are some good places to eat locally which cater for UK Indian sensibilities i.e. hygiene. We found a lt of good places to eat out in Delhi and the last time we went to Mumbai we were advised we'd be better off eating at street food vendors rather than pick some random restaurant. I agree currys tend to be much worse over there, the trick is to stick to vegetarian food and avoid meat
I have lots of Indian Punjabi friends, when they eat their lunch I have noticed that they use a lot of tomato power but less real tomatoes.
They have worked on my house for almost 2 years. I heat 8 people's food every lunchtime and had noticed this. They also love ghee, despite its negative effects.
