Do E.on offer this at all?

They haven't contacted me. This should be mandatory in all households in my opinion, too many people waste energy without even thinking about it.

Hi,

We got a letter today from EDF for an offer for their version with £30 off for £169. I briefly googled smart meters & was amazed at the choice out there - so many & apparently quite some differences between them both in terms of features & price - a bit daunting trying to figure out what to get. Tbh, this was the first time became aware of them!

the EDF one looks a but basic tbh compared to some of the others so can anyone advise me what might be the best ones to consider? Prefer something with the additional screen as shown above to one can see info & one that is flexible in terms of room control rather than the whole house!

Suave!

Smart Meters are free?? You should not be charged at all? Have you got the link. Edf might be offering something else.

If someone has a Smart Meter installed by one Energy Supplier, will the same meter be useable if the homeowner switches supplier to get a cheaper rate?

With the British gas one I asked that question all they would say is some of the functions will and some will not! But I cant see that they will be? Also its a government initiative for upgrade so I cant see them letting British gas lock people in because of meters???

There is currently no agreed standards for smart meter data between suppliers, so when you change supplier you will find the smart meter functions simply stop working in the majority of cases and the meter effectively becomes a standard "dumb" meter until it is replaced with a smart meter for your new supplier (or is reprogrammed to suit). There is a scheme being run through government to launch a standard data system so that all smart meters can simply transfer from supplier to supplier, but that is not going to happen before next year at the earliest and still relies on the suppliers agreeing/implementing the new scheme/standards, and it seems likely to be delayed.

So your BG smart meter will lose its smart functions if you transfer to a different supplier until the new universal data scheme is introduced and implemented across all suppliers.
