Statements like that always come across as a threat...  Squiffy knows a lot more about the system than most of us, that aren't involved directly in the system,  as both his parents are on disability payments

Work is proven to be good for you. Both for physical and mental well-being.

Does this mean all 600k are healthier due to work? Of course not. The exact same could be said for the non disabled workforce.

But on average, people have better wellbeing if they are in work.

Is work good for your mental health

Maybe eventually you can make your mind up on whether you do want the government to get the disabled into work or not. One post they aren't doing enough. Next it's all about how bad it is for them.

My position is clear. 600k more disabled working is good for them, good for society, good for the taxpayer.

Not so good if all you're looking for is an angle to attack the government.

Also to add on mental health. It wasn't that long ago I was off work with depression for 8 months, resulting in me changing job to a smaller employer and taking a pay cut. I'm more aware than most of the importance of mental health to wellbeing. Or for how work can sometimes negatively affect your well-being.

Well that seems to have killed the thread.

Progress is still being made getting the disabled into work.

People with disabilities in employment - Commons Library briefing - UK Parliament

Unemployment rate of 9% compared to 3.8% of those without disabilities. I'd actually expected the difference to be greater.

And to those disputing it saves on the welfare bill.

The government has reported that finding work for an additional 1% of eligible Employment and Support Allowance claimants in 2018/19 would save £240 million, and provide a boost to the economy of £260 million

Edit : changed through to the.  Autocorrect on my phone is odd sometimes.

yes.

It clearly underlines the clear differences in our perspectives and view points.

You provide evidence for it saving money on the welfare bill by providing a quote of the government "prediciting" the savings and boost to the economy for the next 2 years of getting 1% of the ESA claimants into work.

I say: that is to be seen.

We are approaching the topic and issues from completely different perspectives and positions.
I am far more skeptical of the governments claims, goals and results than you seem to be.

We are just going around in circles because what you see as evidence does not fit my definition of such and vice versa.

Hence I find your post attempting to provide evidence for your argument .. and the continued beating of the drum for that argument in the face of the already established diametrically opposed positions of myself and others to be 'funny'.

Ooh ok.

Where's your evidence that getting disabled people into work won't save on welfare or boost the economy?

I don't need to provide evidence, as I am not the one making the claim.

However, I will point to the countless examples of the government claiming something will cost X and save or make Y ...... only to find it cost 3 times more than expected and saved 10 times less.

So... You have no evidence.

I have. You've refuted it. Without any evidence.

You aren't making the claim indeed, however you are disputing the claim. So come on then?
