I don't know how you can say £230 billion is not a lot, it is a lot in the context of the FTSE 100. The highest the FTSE 100 has ever been was 6950 back in 1999, fuelled by the dotcom bubble. We all know that went bust which caused the FTSE 100 to drop right down to less than 3600 by 2003, we saw similar effect due to the banking crisis peaking in 2006 and dipping in 2009.
Assuming no periods of negative growth next year the highest I'd expect to see the FTSE100 is 6400 and the lowest 5600. Although it's difficult to predict anything at the moment, I don't think we'll see 7000 for at least 3-4 years. |
