On this issue, the last time the Assembly voted on a change to Abortion Law (to legalise abortion in cases of FFA) it was a comfortable majority for no. That was a few years ago I think, so I do wonder if this issue would be voted any differently now.

As its such an emotive and sensitive issue, I would imagine the Tories are happy to use devolution to duck the issue for now and which also placates the DUP.

Last time it was the DUP and SDLP that blocked it, but SDLP have since changed their stance, moreso since the referendum results in Ireland, and have said their members can now vote how they wish, rather than with the party line.

I don't know the breakdown by parties of the previous vote (59-40), but I doubt the SDLP switch would be enough to get past the No Party.

Just when you think the DUP have plumbed the absolute depths of their intolerance and bile they surprise you and go even further. After yesterday's emotional debate in HoC, I have just heard (on BBC Ulster's Nolan show) the DUP's Jim Wells directly compare the number of abortions to the Holocaust and the act of abortion akin to the Nazi's killing Jews.

I haven’t heard that, but taking it at face value, that is pretty shocking and bad taste.

I once had the job of harvesting abortion buckets for genetic material.  There was never anything of consequence that was discernibly mammalian, much less human.

Still despise my boss for asking me to do it less than a month after being in the same clinic with my wife.

It's too easy to forget those behind the scenes.

That is a powerful and emotive image IG from many perspectives, as a human being, as a parent, as someone working in science and contributing to the overall knowledge and understanding of life, to bring hope to those facing loss or suffering in the future - while dealing with loss and suffering so emotionally and physically close to home.
