Greece hasn't been sorting it's problems out for a long time.
What do you suggest? Keeping giving Greece money?

No thanks to the EU overlooking Greeks cooking of the books to let them into the Eurozone quickly.

As painful as it will be, the best outcome for Greece at this point would be a default and exit from the Euro. They are not likely to be able to pay the debt back, so it's just a game of charades with an ever moving target of when the jig is finally up. The Greeks I think have to accept that they can't stay in the Euro and need to exit so they can start again. Hopefully this will be the last time Greece finds itself unable to pay it's debts.

This has been blindingly obvious for a long time now. However, in order to preserve the public face of the Euro, billions of Euros that would have been better employed elsewhere have been wasted, a nation has been put through the wringer and its people subjected to an awful existence. If only these 'leaders' had faced up to this reality a long time ago, the worst would now be behind them and they would be on the way to building up their economy again.

The EU is just as much at fault as the successive Greek governments - Greece should NEVER have been allowed to join the Euro - to allow them to join was a huge fraud - and not a very well disguised one at that.

Now they have been found out these leaders would put millions of ordinary people though the mill for years of poverty and austerity, rather than risk their EU dream unravelling. Shame on them all.

I hope the exit is a painless as possible, and I wish the Greeks the very best of luck in building their future.

If Greece leave, its the beginning of the end. As I always believed, EU never had danglies to hold together when it got tough. To different and far to right, was its demise.

Greece crisis: 'What kind of Europe is this that uses the euro as a tool of submission?' - Europe - World - The Independent

“We must chase fear away and gain our sovereignty back. What kind of Europe is this? It is using the euro as a tool of submission. A country’s strength is reflected by its independent flag flying high and control over its national currency – it’s time we regain our currency before we lose both .”

as a supporter of the EU concept,I very much hope that it continues despite the problems Greece faces, otherwise I am convinced we shall be staring into an abyss, the kind that would  make WW2 seem like a picnic party by comparison.Whilst I can understand some people not wanting to be part of the EU , to want its total  destruction amounts to criminal irresponsibility, IMO

I am sorry but you are an idiot for comparing a country leaving the euro/eu to WW2.  You want the Greek people to be living on the bread line for years just so the Germans & French get their own way. Total destruction, its nothing of the kind. It people wanting to rule their own country without some faceless politician telling what they can and cannot do.

Why can't the EU just be a trading block you can be in if you want or leave if you want? Switzerland and Norway etc aren't in the EU right now. Does the world carry on? Is there fire and brimstone? A wailing and a gnashing of teeth? Is it the abyss? Or is everything still fine?

I think the biggest threat to the world right now is radical Muslims or the possibility of a new cold war, not the existence of the EU.

Dude, Chill. I don't think that Amazon Sarl. have any plans to annex Greece just now, as their paypal account has been suspended.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is the politics of fear. Be prepared for a boatload of it in the run up to the referendum.

I think that the Greek politicians are presuming that they can default on their debts, and still continue to use the Euro. It will be an interesting week.
