You didn't, but that's the legal age for voting in the UK currently, hence I assumed that you're happy for 18 year olds to know what they're voting for and who people are?

Whoa there. Cadets train for war? It's a youth organisation. It's like the scouts but with some rifle training. Rifle shooting is also done as an Olympic sport.

They don't learn bayonet charges, section attacks, the law of armed conflict, or spend their time in noddy suits digging trenches or leaping out of personnel carriers.

It's not part of the army but is on some army lines.

Army Cadet Force - Wikipedia

Although sponsored by the Ministry of Defence, the ACF is not part of the British Army or Army Reserve, and as such cadets are not subject to military 'call up'. Some cadets do, however, go on to enlist in the armed forces in later life, and many of the organisation's leaders have been cadets or have a military background.

The Army Cadet Force Association (ACFA) is a registered charity that acts in an advisory role to the Ministry of Defence and other Government bodies on matters connected with the ACF. The Army Cadet Force is also a member of The National Council for Voluntary Youth Services (NCVYS), as an organisation with a voluntary and community youth focus.

Ok, so some go on to join the Armed Forces, some don't.  They're still being trained and I still believe that someone who is 16 should have awareness of someone like Tommy Robinson.

16 year olds aren't trusted to drink, gamble, go to war, watch porn and violence, buy homes, get married, buy fireworks, smoke, drive, fly a plane, stand for parliament, but understand politics? I'm not even sure 18 is the right cut off.

All valid points, and none of those others are being discussed. The fact is, the majority of 16 year olds are well versed in Social Media so, I would guess, are well aware of who Tommy Robinson is and what he stands for.

The same as someone who's never been in.
Trained for what? Have you been in? Do you know anyone in it?

Do you know it starts at 12? You think 12 year olds are being trained for war?

And the point regarding Tommy Robinson before you go off on a tangent again?

Finally something I almost agree with. Yes they've seen him on social media. They might think he was cool or something. Exactly how much they know about him and what he stands for is dubious.

I think he took advantage of it as he is an adult and he probably adored the attention.

Let's be honest, there are considerably more 'supposedly' intelligent adults that continue to share memes and falsities that people like Robinson create and share on a daily basis just to increase their own wealth so I guess there's no reason why 16 year olds wouldn't either.

I'm happy that there is a cut off and 18 seems reasonable for that.

But it's pretty clear that younger people are less politically aware and engaged.
