Yep very true. I remember the old Comic Relief was brilliant.

The show needs to be led by proper comedians too. Not wannabe comedians like McGuiness. Giving presenting duties to a team like Vic and Bob would do for starters.

Fewer, not less   My grammar nazi days are long gone but that one always still bugs me, especially when repeated twice in a sentence and whilst discussing my daughter's English comprehension homework with her

That's what happens when some people think David Lammy is in charge of casting the hosts and acts, writing the theme tune, performing the theme tune...

But yes, Ben Elton may have been a bit of an arse, but back when he was involved with others like Rik Mayall, Ade Edmondson, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, etc, it was far, far better. At least it was aimed at a grown up audience.

[Apologies to be controversial again] But I hope the BBC actually learns something from David Lammy's comments. But I suspect they have no idea and will repeat amongst themselves that every pound raised, no matter what images they show, is worth it in the end.
I guess it helps to be black to understand?

You've got me, it's a fair cop
I have not the foggiest idea what you mean, but as you've taken such glee from your deduction of my poorly concealed true intentions, I'll declare you the winner
I'll see you at Reichenbach Falls, my dear Holmes

Comic Relief will stop sending celebrities abroad in wake of 'white saviour' racism row, Richard Curtis tells MPs

Comic Relief will stop sending celebrities abroad in the wake of its 'white saviour' racism row, the charity’s founder Richard Curtis has told MPs.

The organisation came under fire earlier this year after Labour MP David Lammy said it was “perpetuating tired and unhelpful stereotypes” by using “white saviours” to raise awareness of the poverty facing some Africans.

After the comments were made, the show suffered an £8m fall in donations and lost some 600,000 viewers compared to 2017.

Now, the film director and humanitarian says that he imagines that the future of the fundraising efforts “will not be based on celebrities going abroad.”

Time to knock the whole program on the head. It’s obviously not working for the likes of David Lammy and donations are unlikely from that quarter.
Suspect this year will be the worst ever.

I agree, but hopefully I'll be corrected by facts for the sake of the beneficiaries of the charity involved.

I have dropped a few quid on comic relief over the years

No More of that, plenty of other charities anyway.
