Your post doers not explain where the billions have gone, every other day I see a plea for money for the provision of fresh water and have done so for decades. How is this issue still an issue?

I think he is saying that when you pay £1 to a UK charity let’s say that 70p actually heads off towards Africa after the charity’s operating expenses are deducted.  When it hits Africa, that’s when the ‘facilitation’ charges start.  Payments to organisations and officials to ‘oil the wheels’ to get things done.  By the time it gets to actually paying for materials and workers wouldn’t surprise me if there is only 5p left.

A shame about all the unwanted growing children in the care systems throughout the US, while all these celebs are adopting designer babies to order from Africa, China etc, or through 'gestational surrogates' and promoting the practice.

Which is why these charities will never get a bolt off me. I prefer to give to local charities in my case cat and dog homes and eat her than give money I will pay for a load of food, beds, trays, cleaning products etc etc, stuff I know they need as they have wish lists. That way I know where my dosh is going.

This constant begging from Africa and few results from major donations gets right up my nose.

Not exactly related, but I have to be honest I'm getting a little sick and tired of all this celebrity saviour horsesh*t.

This whole "celebrity goes somewhere to save everyone, and you should donate accordingly" pisses me off beyond all reasoning.

I donate to a few select charities, and have run for a few charities over the years - as I'm sure many have/do, but we're not saviours.

It's all linked these days to this culture of superhero celebrity, that I would burn to the ground if it were possible. They show up, flash a smile, hold a kid, and then disappear back to stumbling out of some award ceremony, or Strictly Come Dancing!!

More likely it was the BBC, supported by all the luvvies, that decided to put a charity show together that would make everyone feel better in themselves.

It must be a winning formula though; and I'd bet the majority who donate, based on a celebrity telling them they should, do bugger all for charity the rest of the year.

Pretty much the same. A few underfunded charities, RSPB aside, bit of change for the homeless, but I've never felt the desire to donate to any of these TV appeals.

Yet they raise a lot more than you, me or rich will do combined...It works in raising money, it works in getting broadcast figures, it works on all those fronts.

I don't like it either, don't even like watching it anymore unless I've already washed my hair and have nothing better to do...But as long as they raise many millions, does it really matter?
