Drug use - media and politicians on a different planet?

Hope I'm far from alone here  ...

What the fudge is the big issue about politicians having taken drugs in their younger days, briefly or otherwise?

All that pisses me off in relation to it is the hypocrisy of both the media and politicians and fake statements of contrition.

Would like more of the late great Mo Mowlam's cock a snook attitude ("unlike President Clinton, I did inhale") but even ballsier ... something along the lines of yeah I might have had weed/coke/Es/billy when I was young, I don't now, I won't be apologizing, next?

You see, I'm of the opinion that given we've got 60m people to choose from, give or take, we should be able to pick someone who hasn't been party to criminal behaviour to be our PM or even an MP.

Joking aside, I'm with my elderly parents this weekend. Sorted out a flash 'new' TV for them (my old one). While training them on the smart features we repeatedly watched the Gove nonsense on iPlayer. They're in their 80s and 70s and really don't give a fudge and cringed at his apology.

Old people are hard as nails too that's why. Things don't bother them, and they grew up in a world where the limited media reported on things that were actually important.

I'm pretty sure they are doing these up front admissions to stop any incidents being used against them.

I don't really care if someone used drugs. Given that I think many of them should be legalised anyway.

If anything I'm just disappointed that none of them will make the link that criminalising drugs is a bad idea given their own past use of them.

It was years ago, they weren’t addicts or dealers. It has no bearing on their present day life.
In fact one of them smoked opium at an Iranian wedding party. The pipe was passed around. Hardly the crime of the century.

They’re all coming out ahead of “shocking expose’s” but it’s started to feel like some sort of playground bragging instead.  I just hope that if any of them win the place as PM that they don’t try to make a point of stamping down on drug users.  The hypocrisy would be hilarious but would make a laughing stock of the Government.
