"lies ,damned lies and statistics" as popularised by Mark Twain
Why should so few people have so many seats?

It's not quite as simple and clear cut as that in my opinion, having a Conservative/UKIP coalition would have been less representative of those who voted Conservative, and as I said I'd argue it would also take things further from the views of many of those who voted for Labour, Liberals and Greens. I would think it's hard to argue that UKIP are more of a middle ground politically than the Conservatives.

And I didn't realise that (a) apathy and sarcasm trumps all, and (b) that there was any sort of national election to change the voting system

Agreed. There's a lot of blind faith in the way people follow and vote for political parties.

I think I'll leave this discussion here. Just to be clear, I'm not saying that I'm a particular fan of FPTP and that I dislike PR, just that I don't think that PR is a tremendously better system. Both have their pitfalls in my opinion.

It does get rather circular in these threads after a while   But then we all get dizzy, come to our senses and move on. Well, most of us do (not referring to you or Sonic67 btw)

And I didn't realise all you had to do was add your name to a website and the electoral system changes. Every day's a schoolday.

The reason why there was a referendum on AV at all was as a result of the Con/Lib Coalition. The Conservatives needed power so they agreed. Just a thought but if millions add their name to change.org the Conservatives are under no obligation at all to actually do a thing. The system tends to favour the Conservatives. Why would they change it?

I dont have a party but just feel that change is always asked for when the results dont fit a particular person or group of persons desired outcome.

I don't feel any particular allegiance to any party. I don't think any of them particularly care about me so I don't care about them. If it comes to it I am glad there isn't going to be an SNP/Labour partnership after all and that there will be an EU referendum. To a large extent I'm quite pleased at how things did turn out.

I wish everyday was a schoolday

I don't remember saying that signing the petition = voting system magically changes. But I'm happy to shown to be wrong

Do you think people signing petitions are wasting their time?

Actually, more pertinently, as you have been arguing in favour of better representation for the 4  million UKIP voters in terms of them having more MPs, how would you begin to implement changes to the voting system that we have now?
