They've lost their opportunity to be relevant, and won't even achieve the modest success of the SDP who had a high point of 11.5% of the vote in the 1983 election, falling to 9.7% in 1987 and their merger with the liberals in 1988.
It's hard to see where they go from here in the medium term other than to either also merge with the Libdems or disband.
I guess their one hope of survival is if they do better than expected in the EU elections and attract more MPs on board. |
