I see that more as a cultural thing, nothing to do with any religious functions or ceremonies or any ideology. Pretty much all get togethers I recall with other Indian families in the 70s-90s would see the women and men do their separate thing, which invariably meant women in the kitchen, men boozing, children all playing somewhere (not segregated, and would include secret smoking etc as we got older). Certainly old fashioned and hopefully disappearing fast. |
