I'm noticing that all the small car dealers around my way are filling up their forecourts with ex-Motability cars.
They seem to be a decent option for a 3 year old car as they're generally all looked after at a main dealer throughout so regular service stamps, and some literally look brand new inside.
So where are they buying them from, just auction houses or is there somewhere specific where anyone can pick one up?
Car's either end up at an auction, BCA for example or they go direct to dealers as they have deals with the finance company.
You can register for free on the BCA website and see there current stock, where and when they go up for sale.
The vast majority are sold at BCA. There are a lot of cars that are under two years old turning up as disabled people are kicked off DLA and are having to return their cars.
I used to be a car dealer, we had access to nationwide motability stock online, generally they were looked after but they have never seen a wax in the three years they have been used.
Nearly all the ones we bought needed a full machine polish and wet vac plus had some cosmetic damage on the body work, if the damage was bad enough you would send a picture back to motability and they would refund the cost of any repair and you could outright send the car back.
No and the system was well abused, I’ve seen people send close up pictures of damaged vehicles that wasn’t even the vehicle they bought and claim money back on the car.
Perhaps it was too difficult for the Motability driver to wax a car because they are disabled! The cost of using a detailer a couple of times a year may well be beyond their financial abilities. My friends have just exchanged their three year old Qashqai for a new one. Never been waxed but it has just 16,000 on the clock. That has to be a win win senario for any used car dealer and the person that buys it.
You don't need a detailer to keep a new car clean Come on, plenty of hand car washes available, and otherwise there are neighbours as well. I've been known to help my lesser abled neighbours with a variety of jobs....
Big difference between a handwash and a good waxing. Even some handwashing establishments use poor cheap shampoo that do damage to paintwork. My cars not had a wash this year yet. No point, I pretty sure it's grey under all that muck.
I've always leased my cars, I'm not the one that's going to benefit for keeping it in a gleaming condition, as long as it's clean inside that's all that matters. It'll get it's annual wash when my old station has a charity car wash day.
My car goes back in July, it'll have around 40k and has been looked after, no not waxed, but kept clean inside and out as I take a lot of passengers. It'll be a good buy for someone as have all my others. Any work needed gets taken care of and it's serviced when it should be.
