I have the 1.8 engine but in a mondeo and it has the belt and chain set up. When I had the cambelt changed, didn't change the chain, I also had the auxiliary belt done. The cost was about £190 12 months ago. That's a big jump up to £725 to change the other belt as well.

I have the 1.8 TDCI engine in my focus. It's pretty much the same as yours and I had my Cam (timing) belt and tensioner changed for £160 all in.
And to add, I was told the chain is for life and doesn't need replacing. Could be wrong but I was told that has it is in oil, as long as the engine oil is changed regularly then I there would be no reason to replace the chain

Hm, apparently my 2008 model doesn't have a chain; it's all belt-driven. I don't know whether that makes a difference?

You know what I reckon the best thing to do is to take it into a ford dealer and get a quote , detailing what parts will be renewed based on the cars mileage , then at least you know what needs changing ....

Hi, sorry, i haven't got anywhere with this yet...the guy who knows about these things is away.
I'm convinced that the price you were quoted is about right.

For your information take a look at this video then you will know what is involved with the job...the guy in the video is on about converting back to a chain ...at about 17 minutes he says the job costs around £1000!!
I'm told this cam belt job takes around 10 hours and you need the special Ford tools!

We managed to get a pal of mine to quote us for the same job at his buddy's garage, and it's come in at £8 cheaper (£742). This has pretty much assured me that we've got a slightly different situation to most.
Looks like I'm gonna have to suck it up!

I doubt if this would cover the above situation!

The wet type timing belt is a unique setup, you cannot relate other timing belt jobs to this.

Anyone who has one of these tdci engines 2008 onward with around 90,000 miles on should save up their pennies for the job!
