Three wheeler perchance? Single at the rear? Bit of a drag that.

Had a few flats over the years, rear on the m way at 70 once. Car was ok and came to a safe stop, quite stable really. Had a rear go on a transit driving through mid Wales, thought it felt odd but enough miles to cook the tyre before I twigged.
Edit. That was a front wheel drive transit, the old rear wheel drives were more fun.

In the second and third pictures there is cracking in the tyre wall, I don't know if that is significant.

Saw the cracking but read the reply they were changed? Cracking on the walls was age and sun related I thought and I have seen some a lot worse on the supermarket carpark (not saying its good).

Not sure how cracks are dealt with at an MOT.

Cracks similar to those in the photos are not regarded as dangerous, but would be an advisory on an mot test.
Deep cracks and/or cracks that are a continuous line and where the cords are showing would be regarded as dangerous.

Agreed: steering geometry looks to be out. At least get it checked and if out, have it realigned. Absolutely pointless fitting new tyres without getting it done. I mean, you could, but they would only suffer the same fate.

If you read the full thread you will see that his tracking was 5 degrees out, which according to Car Man was causing the shredding.

I'm inclined to accept his opinion based upon his experience!

That and running on Winter Tyres all year around...

I'm sure you are.
But tracking is part of steering geometry. No point in fixing just tracking if the entire geometry is out. If there is a problem, and clearly there is in this instance, then a thorough check could well save more than just the cost of a tyres and adjustment.
