It was covered but I was out of pocket. They told me I had to use their car audio supplier who offered me a bottom-of-the-range headunit for roughly the same price as a decent one, which was no-where near as good as the one that was taken. I think the car audio cover was 200 quid and they wanted about 600quid for the unit I had nicked (bought for around 300) and then charge me for installation. I had to jump through hoops and the whole process took months and I eventually threatened them with the insurance ombudsmen and eventually got agreement to let me source my own headunit and refund the money. I also had a sat nav unit taken from under the seat (my mistake) which I didn't get replaced, damaged wiring, not to mention all the belongings that were in the boot. I think they gave me 50 quid for the belongings. They insisted I use their repair facility which was about 2 hours from my home in the middle of nowhere. I refused and insisted on a local place as I had a full respray done in a non-standard colour which again dragged the whole process out. You don't have to use their repairer and if you do, you'll forgo a courtesy car but they were adamant. I did the repair on the seat myself and I had to live with the gouge mark in the dash which was a constant reminder of the break-in until I got rid of the car. I chose Adrian Flux as I assumed they were mod friendly, which wasn't the case. Adrian Flux aren't the actual insurers which is a mistake a lot of people make, they're just brokers.
Basically, read the small print and meticulously check out the actual cover. Most insurers on the price comparison sites offer terrible cover and you can do a lot better but these days people seem to be too lazy and take the easy option i.e. the cheapest. I hate renewing insurance but from now on, I think I'll skip the price comparison sites. |
