So you don't like them, doesn't mean others didn't @gibbsy

Under the skin it is, just like any VAG car. In looks, handling, and general experience they are totally different.

It's a very practical car. It all depends on how practical you want it. Me and the missus in the front, two grandsons in the back and a Cocker Spaniel in the boot. Practical. Not to mention comfortable. OK I'll admit to thinking my Golf GTD handles better, has a more precise turn in. It all depends on what you want with a car and I enjoyed my faultless 40 months with my Scirocco.

But isn’t your GTD a new generation? Isn’t it a mark 7 or 7.5?

That is what I thought. And unless I’m mistaken it is nothing like the scirocco underneath. Nothing at all.

Ps. I had the mk7 Golf R, it is a brilliant platform.

People call the Scirocco a shrunken Golf, but the front may be from a Golf but the rear axle is a Passat and has a slightly wider track than the front. Made it very stable in the bends with a very safe understeer naturally dialed in. It could corner very quickly and safely but didn't have the 'bite' into the corner that the Golf has. Never had a drama in the Scirocco, it's fat behind stayed really planted.

The GTD's chassis is so good though and the progressive steering is very fast and precise and with the 184 Tdi and the seven speed DSG it's a lively drive if you want to.

I told my missus we'd have another 4x4 next car. You're not having a Golf R was her reply, you're too old. I told my son. You're nuts was his reply. Told my grandsons. Go on Gramps was their reply. Maybe a Mk8 GTI then.
