The guy across the road from me has a vector vxr or whatever their sporty one is. It makes an almighty racket when he leaves for work between 5 and 6am. When he pulls off it goes much quieter. Sounds like the old skool cars with a manual choke and it’s stuck out. Tempted to shove some potatoes up his tail pipes!

Vectra?  the VXR has a 3 litre engine that could burble like a baby if he wanted it to.  If it's noisy, he's being a dick...

Haha, yes Vectra. 3 litre, blimey! He pulls off quietly but when he starts it up, it seems to idle at 2000rpm, it’s so loud.

I’m betting that’s a straight pipe with all boxes and cat deleted.

LOL, My apologies: I simply meant it's a bit extreme to assume it has no silencing of any sort just because it's very noisy, unless you've heard it.  .

Replacing boxes with straight pipe is around £80 a box, replacing with straight though box is £180, cat back 250-300 with hi flow cat about 500. Off the shelf is a bit more. Removing the cat give a little more performance and more sound.

A map with standard exhaust won’t give the loudness the op is talking about. No boxes will sound like a fart box but that’s the “in” thing, if you want nice sounding loud exhaust then you definitely need a resonator a nice deep sound will need a resonator and a big back box.

I do loads of box deletes and custom pipework

Interesting.  What do they/you do when the MOT is due? swap them back?  I assume these box delete mods wouldn't pass one?

We don’t delete cats being an mot station.
But yeah they put the cat back for mot, it’s only emissions that’s tested so the cat has to be present and functioning, boxes don’t affect emissions unless it’s blowing but I think for loud exhausts the tester can note it as an advisory
