Warning - this review has some spoilers.
Understanding that the theme of the series is really fantasy, in good fantasy there are elements of truth. For instance, Jacob recognizing people from 30 years before is highly unlikely. How many of us would, 30 years later, recognize someone from our childhood? Not too many, I think.
The ending of the episode was unsatisfying, leaving too many unanswered questions. Why did the guy return? Did he murder his lover, or were the marks left on her body results of him trying to save her? What happened to Jacob? Did he "die" again, or did he remain to grow up as he would have 30 years before? Technically, the acting was good - better than many other pilot episodes of other series I've watched. But I really get frustrated when Hollywood treats viewers as if we're stupid. How was it that so many people were standing in the rain, yet no one was getting wet? How was the federal agent able to drive Jacob to his house without Jacob speaking? After all, we didn't hear Jacob say a word until after he was reunited with his parents? On the whole, I doubt I'll watch this series again - not when there are other good shows available on Sunday evenings.
