A bus full of convicts crashes in the middle of nowhere. Soon, the convicts-as well as a cop and a surviving girl-must fight for their lives against the cannibalistic Three Finger.
The "Wrong Turn" franchise has been interesting up until this point. The first one took the well worn Backwoods Horror genre and milked it for all it's worth, creating a fun throwback to Horror flicks from the 70's and 80's. The sequel upped the ante on gore, nudity and gallows humor, creating a fun splatter flick that stands as one of the best Straight to Video sequels ever. The third entry has it's moments, but it's the weakest entry thus far.
On the plus side, the kills are still fun (including a nasty arrow through the breast scene in the opening), and a few of the performances-especially Tamer Hassan as the sadistic Chavez are surprisingly good (though Janet Montgomery, who was last seen in the better "The Hills Run Red", sadly isn't given much to do.) Unfortunately, too many moments in the movie-from the direction, to the score, to much of the cast and the unconvincing CG gore effects feel too much like a straight to Scy Fy Channel movie-granted one with boobs and profanity, but still a Scy Fy Channel movie. Also, while this one tries to blend Action Horror and the Backwoods Slasher genres, it largely lacks the 70's/80's horror throwback of the original, or the 80's splatter flick throwback and Black Humor of it's sequel-elements that made those movies a lot of fun. This just feels generic.
As far as Straight to DVD sequels go, "Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead" is better than most, but still not that good. The ending leaves room for a sequel, but I personally feel that they should probably stop. I wouldn't want fond memories of Three Finger and his family to turn sour, and I doubt fans would either.
