I can't say I enjoyed it thoroughly. Some shows catch you and hang on in your mind when it's over. Heroes is a prime example of just such a show, with suspense, action, and mystery making you guess and ponder at every turn.
The Dresden files fails to deliver the action and entertainment found within the Books. There is no mystery, there is no drama, and the characters are only skin deep leaving nothing to the imagination. To top if off, the show steers so far from the books it's not even funny. His "Blue Beetle" that has become so famous has been replaced by a Jeep. Lt. Murphy is a sharp edged Brunette instead of the short older blonde Shirly Temple. The long Black Duster is more of a brown jacket. His house is powered by electricity which Jim Butcher makes clear is 'Not' friendly to wizards, and Murphy has a kid... why?!? In my humble opinion, too much was changed to make me like this. There were things changed and added that have been a staple to the Dresden Files namesake that should simply not be there. I mean honestly, did they really have to change anything? Why not just leave it as people know it? Why test the acceptance of thousands of fans by changing the details of what they have enjoyed?
Don't get me wrong, the special effects are excellent, and my hopes were high that someone had brain enough to deliver something non-cliché. But that someone wasn't working on this show. The acting was poor and the director seems to try and keep the suspense flowing, but there just simply isn't any.
I give this a 4 based on the fact that it was only the first episode. But cramming an entire case into one hours worth of time, makes for a boring episode indeed. I only pray that next week isn't another letdown or I may just drop it all together.
