This is a very ill-fated mixture of ingredients which produce... nothing good, nothing new, nothing impressive as a result.
In many aspects, this seems to be a failed copy of Mozart in the Jungle (Amazon), showcasing the behind-the-scenes world of an orchestra, not a ballet company, but at least it came first and so Flesh and Bones seems like a bad deja-vu. And also there is no Gael García Bernal here to compose a vivid, human and charming character. And the cast of that other show was much accomplished than this one.
The acting is either over the top, or completely predictable, or dumb flat. The story is full of clichés and stereotypes, and has too many unbelievable loose ends. The characters are (all of them) a bunch of mean, vulgar, horrible people who pay no justice at all to the world of true art. They are as uninspiring as forgettable.
There are failed attempts to create momentum and dramatic tension, mainly around Romeo and his agitated sense of impending tragedy, but in the end nothing gets to climax, and the whole thing leaves a feeling of waste and shame.
The main actress can dance, but she has only one facial expression and after seeing it ten times, it frankly becomes boring.
Also, 90 percent of the sex and nudity scenes are completely unjustified and don't add nothing to the story line.
Starz executives seem to believe that the mixture of kinkiness, sex scenes every two minutes, foreign mob guys, the long confession monologue in every episode, a stylized title sequence, and some (very nicely choreographed) dance scenes are enough to create a decent show. (Something similar happened with Starz' "Magic City"). But it is not.
In my opinion, this show is rather, rather bad.
