The Sci-Fi Channel's new mini-series 'Tin Man' is an extremely well directed, well acted, well produced, well designed, well written, and generally well thought out update on a beloved classic. It does not intend to be a re-telling of the 'Wizard of Oz', newly cloaked in modern-day attire and parlance, but rather updates and re-spins an old myth the same way that people have done for centuries with old Greek myths and the like. It's like an engaging riff on an old refrain, and it has me hooked. The writers took elements of the original story and combined them with the good ol' fashioned tropes of science fiction and came up with a story that pays homage to the original while at the same time taking the story to new and exciting places. Watching out for the little touches inserted that reference the old movie is particularly amusing - like the large green head of the 'Wizard' in one scene, DG's waitress outfit, the flashback to a 'lions and tigers and bears, oh my' moment, etc...
I wish there were more miniseries like this out there! Really worth watching!
