It is really difficult to express too strongly that the entire problem with this series can be expressed in two words: Vince D'Onofrio. I'm not sure whether it is that the man is an exquisitely awful actor, or whether he is extraordinarily skilled at playing a truly repulsive character, but either way seeing his meaty face is sufficient grounds to change the channel. Particularly repulsive is his endless macho posturing, his sarcastic bullying and general pomposity. All of which would be forgivable if we were not invited by the program to view Donofrio's character as an admirable guardian of justice rather than the thuggish fool projected by his behavior. Equally annoying is the way he plays his role. Comparing his manic, tic filled overacting to the simple, clean, mannerism free performances of Chris Noth is sufficient to illustrate the difference between a man who plays a role, and one who simply performs. With Vince D'Onofrio I am constantly aware that I am watching an actor playing a role, and in an extremely annoying manner. With Chris Noth I am simply watching an individual whom I like and care about cope with the difficulties of his profession. Please CI producers, dump D'Onofrio and make Chris Noth the central character of this show.
