The problem with the Tiger I is that it's has paper thin Armor comparing to other tanks in it class. Yet, once you start mastering it's stealthy approach it can be good fun as it has a very accurate gun.

I remember when I 1st got into Tiger I I was getting very frustrated as I was killed constantly without much effort on enemy side but then I watched some videos on YouTube and realized that my game style was wrong. Since then I've been playing it as a true Sniper and picking of enemies from back lines. Works well.

Yes, I need to do that too. Every time it gets hit it's either tracked or a crew member dies.

I'm still crunching through so many games, I'm trying to level up the Russian line to the KV-1 and also started on the German tank line.
What I have found fun is going back to do tier 1 & 2 battles with tiny tanks. It teaches you to think alot more and use tactics more carefully. One thing I have learnt is when an enemy is spotted let someone else take the first shot, that way he can get lit up first to check whether enemies are within spot range

Yes, I'm finding that to be a lot of fun too. A lot of people must be really surprise when I roll out in my Leichttraktor with 100% crew and modules installed and start pwning the **** out of everyone.

As another matter, tried SPG for the 1st time last night and found it to be fun too.

SPG's are fab. It's a totally different way to play the game and you really are a maker or breaker on a battle. My total fave SPG is the Russian S51 it's reload time sucks but the damage it does is crazy.

German SPGs are good too, the Grille and Hummel are good fun to play with. The early SPGs really suffer from bad distance but once you get beyond the tier 3 guns you can pretty much hit anything from anywhere.
Stick with it and also learn to take out the enemy arty as you can spot them firing.

The little tier three Soviet SU-26 SPG is a beast. It reloads fairly quickly and is accurate, although they've recently reduced the amount of ammo from 26 to 24. This generally isn't a problem however as I've only ever run out a handful of times. Got a couple of medals with it for killing the last enemy with the last shot.

Got enough experience on my Tiger to unlock the Tiger II but no funds to buy the damn thing.

Is the best place to buy gold directly in game or is it cheaper to purchase elsewhere. I don't know if stores do gift cards, etc

I'm not aware of any other place than through wargaming.net. They have a gift store with various credit and gold packages or if you just want gold get it through the in-game client.

There are ultimate gaming cards but it's just like a debit card as far as I'm aware.
