Did not see this until now..
How many mis truths and mistakes is it possible to get into a short  post.?
1..  Abortion is illegal in virtually every country, including the UK. Its just that the  grounds for having one legally  are wider.
2. Abortion has been legal in Ireland , under the specific condition of imminent danger to the life of the mother .
3. Ireland has a tradition of obeying the" will of the people ". Its called a referendum and the process is enshrined in the irish consitution.  4. The 8th amendment  was the  " will of the people in 1983. "
5. And finally it was not a close call  a 2:1 ratio is pretty definite.

The thread was started before the referendum had taken place, so the OP needs to be read in that context.

Surely legal under specified circumstances? And illegal in others.
Like being drunk in your own home is legal, being drunk flying an airliner is definitely illegal.

Either way is correct, but one puts a different emphasis on it.  Yes, if you try and get an abortion without seeing a doctor in the UK it is illegal, but it's a very odd way of looking at it. You and I would put it as "In the UK it is possible to get a legal abortion in most instances". (The obvious exception being after 26 weeks).

I suspect it was more a case of a sensitive Irish snow flake stepping into something that is old news now....Although Northern Ireland could do with a bit of it now
