... but then it's not supposed to be. It's a television adaption and they are completely different mediums. In books the opportunities are endless, there are no limits to what can be done. On TV there are limits, physical, moral and budgetary to name a few.
So yes there will be changes to any adaption the trick is to see beyond the cosmetic adaptations and not throw a hissy fit because someone's hair is the wrong colour, or two inches too short (yes people really can be that picky). Even more detailed changes can be overlooked if there was no way to avoid them Book!Bob simply doesn't work in a TV medium, they tried they failed and Jim Butcher really likes what they've done with TV!Bob.
As for the episodes.. yes they got off to a bit of a shaky start but viewers have to remember that they shot a 2 hour film, the channel then decided they'd rather have a series. So the film got tossed out and they started again then had to cut the film done it to a 40 minute episode and as a result is the only episode that sticks out like a sore thumb because it just doesn't fit with the rest of the series despite the clever editing. On the whole the episodes were all enjoyable and improved in leaps and bounds from each other. Yes a couple of the story lines might have benefited with being two-parters instead of feeling too rushed in the last quarter but those are things you can only see after the fact, small teething problems.
The relationships between characters are great and on the whole nicely adult. There is much more to explore in their individual relationships and histories.
All we need is for Sci-fi to give The Dresden Files another season and we may have one of the best shows on TV, quite literally magical.
