I totally disagree with the other review I read. I thought the series pilot was extremely well-done. The special effects are good, the acting is beyond par with the usual TV SciFi. And as far as the director trying to "draw out suspense," the show took several twists and turns that were totally unexpected, and I thought I had seen all the possible gimmicks TV SciFi had to offer. It's only been on a couple of episodes, give it time. Few TV shows are recognized as instant classics. "Dresden Files" has great promise.
That is my comment for those who have seen the show. For those who have not, the best way I can think to explain it is this: What will Harry Potter do after he destroys Voldemort? This. I can totally see Harry Dresden as a grown-up Harry Potter, a wizard who has lost loved ones and been through horrors because of magic. He is now slightly cynical, but not heartless. He uses his magic to help others defeat dark forces.
Like I said, the show has only been on, at the time of this review, two weeks. Give it a chance. It's definitely worth your time.
