did karate for a while with my eldest son, but was a very watered down version of shotokan................ very poor school, GKR karate................ instructors were no more than green belts, but were given "black and white" belts, after persuading me to go to "senior training" i realised they were grooming me to teach a class................... at orange belt level, i decided to move over to kickboxing, and love it data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

sounds more like a money making scheme than a karate class

There's many out there that offer black belts with tokens off the back of cereal boxes!
Seriously though, I saw one website that guarantees you'll become a black belt by training at home. You receive details on what you need to achieve to grade then you video yourself and send to 'Sensei'! He'll then award you your next grade on what he see's. It has money making scam written all over it.

my boy started karate when he was 4.5 years old stopped at 6 and started again when he was 8 through a change of heart. He loves it and i thinkthats all that matters.
Just earned his full blue i didnt buy it for him. Pretty strict regime at his club. 2.5 hour lessons first hr is fitness with weights and bungee ropes pretty hardcore then the karate for the remainder.
The club did a little show when the olympic torch came through our town
This is him doing a kata that day i think its pretty tight but i not know much about karate but he reminds me of a mini whitebruce lee data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

That Kata was Jiin. Looks to be sh*toryu or at the very least the offshoot Shukokai. It looks like it is Shukokai.
He is doing well, I would be proud to have him as a blue belt. He looks determined.
