Also the 50mm is bigger, heavier and slower than the F-mount 50mm F1.4G as well.

The buffer is surprisingly small as well on the Z7 as well as the other issues mentioned above, I'm surprised they went with the XQD only.

Oh well back to toying with whether to get an A7 or not, I was out shooting with the RX1 today which I'm loving but the option of a wide angle or telephoto prime with IS is still tempting me.

Nikon have basically made a Sony mirrorless camera from 3 years ago. Its Just not good enough today. If Canon Screw up there mirrorless FF entry it will make my next purchase a simple one.

I think mirror less = new mount
Its obviously not compulsory but needed for some of the advantages.
Probably the reason both Canon and Nikon have been late/delayed the decision as it's their primary advantage.
But I think Nikon will catch up in the next gen, and seem pretty aggressive with the lens roadmap.
It will be interesting to see what Canon release and when, as well as what Nikon's DSLR roadmap will look like in parallel to mirror less.

This is my bug bear though. If they will catch up in the next gen why release this, why not wait until that 'next gen' is developed and release something that is on par with the current market rather than something that is 3 years out of date?

They are afraid of being the only major manufacturer without a mirrorless offering given how well Sony are doing.......

Oh, and £600 for the 50mm f1.8 data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 Why when the f-mount ins under £200? data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Yeah I understand that, but is 6months going to make that much difference? Also, rumours are that the Z bodies aren't big enough to take 2 memory cards data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 So they've had a clean slate to design a new camera any way they want, and they design one that can only take one card //static.avforums.com/styles/avf/smilies/facepalm.gif //static.avforums.com/styles/avf/smilies/facepalm.gif //static.avforums.com/styles/avf/smilies/facepalm.gif

Well it’s clearly more in line with the Zeiss 55 for Sony than the normal nifty 50.

But it is a somewhat schizophrenic system.

only the best quality lenses and an expensive card format - but we aren’t giving you the redundancy lots of pros demand from a second slot

a new massive mount so we can do super large aperture - but the only thing faster than 1.8 (let alone the competition) for the next year and a bit is a ridiculously expensive, massive, manual only lens and there is nothing other than 50mm primes on the roadmap faster than that

But I do have some sympathy for their beta testing. It is simply too much money to up front design an entire lens catalogue - so they had to get started with the lenses and had to have something to sell to attach them to.

I don’t like the idea of super short flange and closed eco system for them though. Either go super short and open up the protocol (so you become the camera that everybody can stick every lens on) or protect your lens market by having a longer flange and build yourself a Z to E adaptor so people know they can buy your glass and use it on Sony. As it is if their cameras flop the whole endeavour becomes another Nikon One.
