Yes there are stereo active speakers. Using wi fi and or Bluetooth. Any will sound better than the tiny units they are forced to use inside tablets. For my self I sent tablets as personal communicators so having headphones links closely with that. Using headphones you can get glorious stereo or better, and no compromise.I have been playing with my Lenovo yoga and playing some flac music files under a program called radsone. The phones are pretty good , but the combination is electric. .. full rich effortless sound, I can pick out a duet where I previously thought only one person was singing

I agree that the sound through headphones can be really good, and dramatic, but I find it mentally tiring to wear them for more than, say, half an hour. It is after all unnatural for sound to (appear to) emanate from inside one's head.
Wearing headphones as often as many seem to do, it's no wonder some younger people behave erratically - when they're not wearing headphones that is! I'm 71.
Diverging from the subject for a moment - I was a child of the 1950s and contrary to what some pundits say, it was a wonderful time to be a child. National health and welfare was much better than in previous generations, there was little road traffic so it was safe to play outside, we were more independent and had much more personal freedom than children of today as a result, and probably most significantly there weren't the tremendous commercial pressures that children (and their parents) are under today - pressures to conform and buy, buy, buy the latest gadgets, fashions and fads.

This reply is a bit late but I "upgraded" from my iPad Air exactly for the stereo speakers reason.
Sometimes I want to watch a movie/documentary on the couch or bed or maybe I'm moving around the kitchen and I don't want the hassle of earphones.
I went for the Huawei M3 Lite 8 LTE which, for the features it offers, it's a bargain.
It has two speakers and max audio volume is very high compared to the other tablets I owned, quality is good enough so I'm very happy about the purchase.
I chose the 8" for portability, reviews about the 10" version say the same about audio (even if I haven't tried it myself) and it has the added bonus of 4 speakers, 2 per short side.
...and they shamelessly copied the iOS settings style into Android data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

Some of the Huawei tablets have excellent stereo sound, they are supposed to be harman kardon tuned.

I can confirm that, I bought the ~8" MediaPad M3 as a gift for a family member and it sounds pretty decent for a tablet. Superb screen too. The sound is certainly better than my own ~10" iPad Pro which was more than 3x the price!
Huawei just announced the M5 series, supposedly with even better sound.

I ordered the Huawei mediapad T3 10 as it dropped to £99 on Monday, after Tesco clubcard vouchers it cost £65, this model doesn't have stereo speaker but fine for the kids. My LG Gpad 8.3 full hd tablet which is 4 years old has stereo speakers at the rear and pumps out a really good stereo effect. Manufacturers should make stereo the norm for tablets and phones.

Yamaha Wx range of speakers as well as being musiccast are also Bluetooth and can be paired as a stereo pair. I have this setup in my bedroom and sounds pretty good to me

The M3 definitely has stereo sound and some Harman-Kardon badging. It's the best sounding mobile device I've heard short of my 15" Macbook Pro.
I looked at the M5 specs and the 10" one has 4 speakers, the 8" one only two, both are stereo.

1 for the Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Plus
I purchased one a couple of months ago, it has four speakers arranged across the bottom of the screen like a sound bar (landscape)and they sound very good. The battery life is simply amazing, I don't use it for hours on end, more for tea breaks and lunch breaks at work, and weekend reading before I get up. Charged it last Sunday and still have 23% left which it tells me is 1 day 9 hours, I presume on my usage pattern, basically one charge lasts me 7 days.
Only real problem I have is finding a nice case for it, the leather one I bought adds quite a bit of weight and has a frame around the screen which gets in the way.

I agree the yoga tab3 plus is a very good machine. The stereo speakers are loud and clear. Recently I was listening with good headphones and the sound quality can be stunning.
