Which 9.7-10" tablets have stero speakers?

I bought a 2017 9.7 iPad a couple of months ago and was very disappointed to discover that it did not have stereo speakers so I sold it. It was a stereo device though, as it was stereo through headphones, but I find it tiring listening through headphones for any length of time. It had a pair of speakers at the bottom (to one side when looking at it in landscape orientation) but I'm sure they weren't stereo, but even if they were, they were useless being so close together and to one side of the screen when watching a video. I previously had a cheap Hudl 2 which has excellent stereo speakers either side of the screen in landscape orientation, so it seems a serious deficiency that a more expensive tablet should only be mono! For the time being I've therefore gone back to using my Hudl - which also has an excellent screen (though sadly an inadequate battery). As far as I can tell, the Samsung equivalent of the 2017 iPad is also mono - which is therefore just as bad. I believe the 9.7 iPad Pro has stereo speakers at either end (i.e. either side of the screen in landscape mode) but it's difficult to be sure, as tablet manufacturers don't seem to mention whether their devices have mono or stereo speakers. I don't really want to spend as much as an iPad Pro though; I want to spend no more than around £300 or so on a 9.7 or thereabouts tablet so can anyone recommend one, either Mac or Android, which is good in most important respects but which definitely has stereo speakers?

The 2017 iPad you sold had 2 stereo speakers. When viewed in portrait mode the 2 speakers positioned either side at the bottom are definitely stereo...not ideal positioning for a stereo effect but nevertheless they are stereo.
There is a setting under accessibility to switch to mono.

The Lenova Yoga 3 tablets have proper stereo speakers, they are a bit marmite in their form factor but are excellent for sound according to many reviews I've read.

The Samsung Galaxy TAB S3 9.7 has an AKG-branded "quad-stereo" display which automatically detects in which orientation you are holding the tablet, meaning you get a proper stereo image in both portrait and landscape modes with the sound reproduction reported as being excellent. That said, it's not the cheapest tablet on the market, but "excellent" and "cheap" don't really belong in the same sentence.

Good luck,

Martin.

The largest iPad pro (12.5"?) has a similar system I believe, a speaker on each corner which reorient depending on which way it's held.

Just putting it out there but you could purchase a decent stereo bluetooth speaker that would sound far better than any internal stereo speakers
