hmmmmmm pretty disingenuous tag line and conclusion imo. Do not get me wrong, I am seriously concerned that oculus are starting to drop the ball by seemingly putting mobile VR 1st, but

they are not comparing like with like. From what i can tell *brief look* reporter is comparing VIVE to DK2....... I would say valves prototype is crescent bay NOT DK2 after all, its not like I can go out and buy VIVE now either so both are currently internal models only.comparing VIVE to the 18month old DK2 design is hardly apples with apples.

All that being said....

Watch out, Oculus: HTC Vive's VR experience is astonishing (hands-on) - CNET

this one does compare to crescent bay and they STILL say its better..... data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I would still only want VR for static applications (racing/Elite), I don't have the 2 yoga mats of free space. I barley have space for a PC these days.

These guys give a nice indepth review and interview with a valve engineer.
They are pretty well respected in VR nerd land (where I currently reside) data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

I'm concerned this is due for release about the same time as the Steam Machines and Steam Controllers and yet pre-orders haven't been made available. Its supposed to be shipping to developers as planned though.

The HTC Vive is shipping to developer hands right now | TechRadar

Unboxing of the developer kit...

It appears to be re-assuringly mature. The controllers are wireless and the base stations look to be consumer ready looking. May be a 2015 release is feasible. I think I'm now definitely more excited by the potential of the Vive than the Rift.

I am gonna wait i think till both are out, and then see how the land lies.

I think I'll do the same. Its fustrating that it feels like we're about to fall into another format war. I do have more faith in Valve/HTC delivering the VR games I want to play than I do Oculus/Facebook though.

Though I'm hopeful I'm really not sure the HTC Vive is gonna appear this side of Xmas. If so, the Rift and the Vive are likely to drop only weeks apart early next year. Though of course they will be like gold dust for the first few weeks so you'll be unlikely to get either before summer 2016 (1 year from now!!!) unless you pre-order.

I just know I'm gonna pre-order.

I have not looked into it much, so sorry if spreading false hope, but I read somewhere today that the VIVE SDK supports the oculus rift!.Apparently this is proving handy for devs who want to support VIVE but have not gotten the dev kit.

IF this is true (and like i said its only 1 post I read this) but IF it is, maybe it bodes well for VIVE having a rift compatibility mode, and then maybe vice versa too.
