I have just recently purchased some Netgear Powerline AV 200 Homeplugs (XAVB1301) and am having problems getting one of them to work!!
My set up is as follows:
(Downstairs)
Sky Wireless N Router > Ethernet Cable > Powerline (plugged in Mains socket)
All 3 lights are on, and all are green
(Upstairs)
Powerline (plugged in Mains socket) > Ethernet Cable > Desktop PC
Only 2 lights on (Power and Ethernet LED, Powerline LED not on)
The problem i have is the Homeplug being used upstairs (in ANY Mains socket) is not recognising the Homeplug being used downstairs.
I then thought i would try using the Secondary Homeplug (from upstairs) in a different Mains socket downstairs, and hey presto, it recognised the main Homeplug used from the Router!! (All 3 lights green, on both plugs)
I have had a good look through these FAQ's but cannot see an answer to my problem, has anyone got any idea what could be preventing this from working upstairs?? (My ring main is going from one Fuse box as well)
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as i have no other way of getting internet on PC upstairs :-(
A network hub/switch or a router will work fine. I've also been using a network switch with mine with no issues. You will probably get the best performance with a network switch.
I have Devolo AV200s.
At my Master Socket I get 40Mbps internet connection. I use the homeplugs to connect my kit upstairs. I can only get 26Mbps upstairs. So I am losing quite a lot of speed through them.
So beware!
I have a single old eBuyer homeplug (passthrough version) and TP Link pair.
The TP link pair fine, but I haven't used the eBuyer one for ages - does anyone know how I can add it to the linked pair of TP Link adaptors?

I've had a set of Solwise 200AV plugs for a year now, prior to that I had 85 Turbos, so I've been using HomePlugs for some time now. I've just got hold of a pair of Simpler Networks 200AV Pass-Through plugs for product testing.Quite a bit faster than the Solwise, but they're doing something I've never seen Homeplugs do before.
They're picking up IP addresses from my router.I know it's them for three reasons:
1. The device name has "INTELL6400..." in the title, which is of course a reference to the Intellon 6400 chipset they use.
2. The mac address is the same as the one on the back of each plug
3. They disappear from the router's list and reappear as I plug and unplug them.
I hasten to add that I don't have anything plugged into them (other than one is connected directly to the router), so these are not IP addresses of other devices, and anyway I know the IPs of all my devices and it ain't them.
Has anyone seen this behaviour before?I've done a port scan of each IP and there are no open ports, so it can't be for remote management.

Why is that?
I having issues with the tp link 281 wireless working when I have a pair of 211 (kit) being used also. Wireless takes forever (or doesn't ) connect and/ or it's dog slow.
Any ideas?
It is because the mechanisms that HomePLugs (and ethernet, & wi-fi) use to transmit data have no way to discriminate between traffic that "belongs" one network or another.
So there is no way to maintain separation between traffic that belongs to your "external" network (upstream of your router) and your "internal" network (downstream of your router - ie your LAN/WLAN,) if both were being sent across your HomePlug---HomePlug link, the two sets of traffic would get mixed up and all sorts of madness would ensue.
There are technologies around that can do this sort of thing, but it's infrequently implemented in SOHO kit.
Thanks for explaning it. I'll just use two wireless routers then (one of them will have its wireless disabled).
