This is a good video of the off axis we probably get from the new Q9

The viewing angles look superb. If theres no drawback to that like the Sony ZF9 has that's going to be pretty damn impressive. The ambient light filter is also extremely impressive too.

The Sony ZG9 is a giant screen with the headline grabbing 8K res, and it's not a true size for size replacement for ZD9 which came in at 65 and 75 inches. Can't understand why Sony did not incorporate the 'Backlight Master Drive' which is on ZG9, and not on step down model, XG95.

The master drive was missing from last year's 'Master Series' and was not received well. I bet the XG95 can't exceed the contrast level of the 3 year old ZD9. It's a big disappointment on the LCD front. Samsung has not even announced what their top LCD dog would be.

The master drive will not go to xg95. What is bizarre is that they didn’t release a zf9 with it or a 65zg9...perhaps sept.
Sony disappointing overall

There is hope for Samsung next q9. It may not have mini led as expected but looks like Samsung worked hard

CES 19> Samsung QLED Ultra HD / 4K 2019, better than the Oled?

Let's hope the final version lives up

I don’t know what to think anymore. I still remember how @Matson was impressed with his q9. If they improved viewing angles and ai plus dimming then perhaps...
Part of me pissed off no qantum dot on glass and especially no mini led...you need that against Oled...
Sony used to say number of zones is not everything so let’s hope it is true here...

Let’s see how it goes but 2018 models are starting to look like serious bargain...

zeppelino Publish time 1-12-2019 22:26:18

Hisense chased zones and nits last year with their U9A and came up short. They may well have mini led but as with dimming, implementation is more important. They also used quantum dot tech but fell short of Samsung with colour.

Let’s hope they push the rest to greater heights and better pricing over time.

The Q9 is a Stunning TV. Viewing angles aren't that great though. I watch straight on so its not an issue but moving off axis the colour drops pretty quickly. If they can really match OLED viewing angels with there new panels this year they will have a seriously good TV in there hands. The only thing that I would say could make it better this year is having HDMI 2.1 and more zones.
