Street Pass/Mii Plaza
What are these 'apps' used for? I had a quick look when i first got my 3DS but didn't seem to be useful for anything. Kind of self explanatory really..Street Pass, pass someone in the street, and they will visit your 3DS, adding to your roster, and also letting you pick a puzzle piece from them, or helping you out in Street Quest.
Mii Plaza, it's where all the Mii's are, ones you create, or ones that you move from the main gate, to there, like special ones.
StreetPass | Nintendo 3DS | Nintendo Ah i see thanks. Not sure I'll ever take my 3DS out of the house so a bit redundant for me. It's handy if you play Animal Crossing. For one, you'll accrue 'play coins' by walking around with your 3DS in sleep mode. You can use these in Animal Crossing to get fortune cookies, which hold tickets inside. The tickets can be exchanged for Nintendo-themed clothes, accessories and furniture from the Nooklings shop.
Also, if you pass someone in the street who also plays AC you'll find their house in your town's happy academy area and can order their furniture.
On another note, the latest 3DS firmware update has added a couple of extra dlc minigames within Streetpass Plaza. £4.49 each, designed by people like Grezzo (who made the Zelda OoT remake) and Prope (Yuji Naka's studio). I get the feeling none of the websites or magazines knew about these until they actually came out.So I think I'll wait until they've had some time to play them and get some reviews out.
Plus it's probably not worth me getting these until Streetpass Relay is up and running.I simply don't get enough Streetpasses at the moment. I almost never get a streetpass. I took my 3DS out with me to Cabot Circus in Bristol yesterday, and was there for an hour or more without a single hit. When I take mine out with me I usually get one or two, and when I go in to central London I tend to get around eight plus. HMV, Game, PC World etc sometimes have a display model you can streetpass.
I've been to a couple of the London streetpass meets data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7 where I would get 20passes and at the Sunday of Euro Gamer last year, I got about 40 in the three hours that I was there. I went to Canterbury today and got eight - that's the most I've ever had in one day.Admittedly it was very busy there today.The recent E3 spotpass Miis have put a lot more pink puzzle pieces out there.
My wife only got one Streetpass.I think part of the reason was that she went into lots of shops, while I loitered outside. I'll take it up to Cribbs tomorrow. There's a hmv and game so should get 2! One minor thing about the Streetpass update that I haven't seen mentioned anywhere.My wife and I Streetpass most days and previously our individual count stopped at 99 (although the total number of Streetpasses kept going up).Now it's no longer capped at 99.
