Is it sad that one of the reasons I'm looking forward to going abroad tomorrow is the prospect of getting some foreign StreetPasses at the airport?

There's a map for streetpass points:

I got my 3ds xl on Monday and am loving the street pass stuff. I live in a small town so don't get many actual street passes (met one guy twice and a couple of others just the once) but there are 5 hotspots in town (wetherspoons, Costa and a couple of other pubs) so I've been picking up their signal as I drive past on the way to and from work. I also drive around a lot for work so get quite a few hotspot hits on my travels.
It's definitely worth taking the 3ds with me in the car or backpack even if I'm not planning on playing it.
Is there a maximum limit to how many I can have waiting? I went to meadowhall the other day and got loads but because the 3ds was new I kept checking it and getting my puzzle pieces, the most street passed I had waiting at a time was 9 but if is left it unattended for the whole visit it would have been like 25, can that many build up or does it get capped?

From what I can find, it's got a limit of 10. When you get ten, collect puzzle pieces etc.... then let them build up again.
Nintendo put limits on 3DS StreetPass sharing so it can add features later
As for games, it seems that different games have different limits when in sleep mode:
Mario Kart 7 - 10
Mario 3DS - 3
If you have a few friends with 3DS's, you can street pass them once every 8 hours data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7
It's till all new to me too.

Ta. Mario kart and Mario 3d land are the only games I've got so far. I'm liking the extra lives and power ups on getting through sp for Mario land. Not good enough to compete with ghost or other people yet on kart though

After all this time I still really enjoy seeing that green light lit up. It's great taking your 3DS abroad and getting people from other countries and regions.
The 10 people limit is a real pain though at places like Euro Gamer as you need to constantly be clearing the queue. When you've also got the extra four streetpass games it starts to take ages.

Yeah, I imagine that would be a bit of a chore. Think I'll just stick to the 2 original ones
