Sure, but most people buying an original Playstation are going to be incredibly selective about the games in which they choose to purchase because they come from knowledge and are of a certain generation. Most blokes my generation know that buying the 'ps1' mini is a waste of money.

This also helps strengthen the argument for physical discs over software versions too. As wee've all seen, these physical discs have been creeping up in value over the last 10 or so years. It's only going to get higher. Same for music CDs too.

yes an original ps1 and then buying the games you want would be better than the ps1 classic but it wouldnt be cheaper as a ps1 and 20 games would be more expensive

How do I plug in a analogue only device into a TV with no analogue inputs? Thats the crucial part to all of these classic systems, plus with a bit of tinkering you can install what game you want. And I recall my original Playstation developing a laser issue and would only work if I turned the unit upside down.

Simple, you don't plug it into a modern TV, you plug it into an audio receiver that has analogue inputs. Most should be past proof. As for your Playstation developing a laser issue. Well, sounds like you had a rare faulty one as the quality control on the original Playstation was second to none.

A your assuming that I have a AVR (which I do) but it doesn't convert those to HDMI so I still need to output them to something analogue.

The laser issue was very common on the original Playstation

RCA to HDMI adapter. £11 on Amazon.

Your on a AV forum and suggesting a composite output, I mean come on, back in the day we would have used a RGB connection. Most console modes that allow HDMI on old consoles needs soldering and can be expensive .

The £40 classic still seems like a better option.

You can't even play CDs on the new 'classic' though.

But you can load your own iso's.
