Wow, that really is great service. Heading to RS next week. Thanks for the recommendations everyone.

Sounds like something advertising standards should hear about.

I buy all my home cinema tech from RS and buy lots from JL too. RS are faultless with after sales service and they're normally happy to get involved in a bit of negotiating. I've never been let down by JL either though. I'd happily buy from either and feel safe in the knowledge I'll be looked after if anything went wrong. Don't be put off by RS, it's JL losing out.

Knowing where the Exeter branch of John Lewis is I'd personally got to RS just for ease of access. They have a car park at the back all you have to do is ask to be let in, they will even carry your goods to your car for you.

As others have said Richer Sounds have never quibbled when exchanging a faulty item either.

For me it just makes sense to buy from RS, they know what they are talking about, if you sign up to their VIP club you may get even more ££ off

My understanding is, even if it's an in-store exclusive, Richer Sounds will deliver. You just have to go to the shop to purchase.

I've had RS in-store exclusive items purchased over the phone and home delivered.

I know this is an old thread, but I am coming up against a very similar situation. A Samsung that is £50 cheaper at RS than JL. I filled in the silly online form and sent it in over 24 hours ago, but no answer, so I just called and probably spoke to the same woman as the original poster. She had the same condescending attitude telling me it could take 72 hours to verify the price match.

RS is not a huge distance from here and JL is further. My only difficulty is that we received some JL gift vouchers that obviously couldn't be used at RS, otherwise I would have already dropped JL and had the TV here yesterday. Their online chat is never working and it just feels like JL customer service has taken a bit of a dive.

John Lewis customer service was closed on Christmas day and Boxing Day. They opened only this morning. I sent a price match request on 25th & got a response this morning.

JL will definitely price match RS. Just buy it while waiting for an answer. You have 28 days anyway.

ashleyk Publish time 26-11-2019 21:27:26

JL customer service answered the phone yesterday, so there were definitely people there. From the comments of the original poster it sounds like they were being tricky and this situation is basically identical. If I buy from JL today they don't have much incentive to give the refund later.

There is actually a shop half a mile from here stocking the same TV at the same price as JL, but again I can't use the vouchers there. It would be easier if JL allowed you obtain a refund on gift vouchers so the money could be spent elsewhere.

This is the automated email I received. It's their price match department which was closed:
