It is ALWAYS the fault of the seller. The seller has the responsibility to check their item descriptions, whether automatically generated by a barcode number or not.

Using a picture that bears an SACD logo and then sending out a redbook CD compounds the negligence.

I do reserve a degree of sympathy though as often many private sellers have no idea what SACD is, so when they go through the auto listing they simply think all is as it is.

I've often asked for confirmation if the item listed is definately an SACD(Super Audio CD)?, to which I've received a reply along the lines of "sorry, I don't know what it is you are asking, what is a super audio cd?".

It was the SACD they sent you, though, was it?

I've been looking at this myself.

Also, a general question: are there any price comparison engines that work for CDs (SACD or otherwise), these days? I've used find-dvd successfully for movies in the past, but they're rubbish for CDs, as are Google's first half dozen hits for "CD price comparison".

find-cd.co.uk (the sister site to find-dvd) has always been very successful for me.

Ah!

Yes, that's the one I'd been trying, but it was missing Play's price, which was cheaper than anyone else, by quite a few quid.

It turns out that the problem seems to be isolated to that boxed set.

Sorry for the false alarm.

To bring the thread back on topic: if anyone's got time to claw through the bargain bin, throw "SACD" into find-cd's search box and it throws back a lot of hits - usually one or two per page less than a tenner, some that surprised me.

Deep Purple - Live on the BBC on SACD is £12.82 at Amazon.co.uk

There are sometimes odd anomalies and it's good practice to check a couple of other sites, as not all retailers are included in find-cd/dvd's comparison. I've emailed them in years gone by asking them to add retailers, but they never have and I suspect it is not as simple as that.

Hi, Yes it was the SACD. Very pleased with the sound quality and surround mix.
I also recently bought THE Layla SACD FROM Ebay. It was also a good buy.
regards stasis.

Have finally got my full refund from the eBay seller SpeedyHenUK who missold me this item. Very slow communications, lots of fobbing off and took almost three weeks to get everything refunded, including my return P&P costs which I argued I should not have to be out of pocket for.

If they had responded to my very specific question correctly in the first place, we both could have avoided all the hassle.

Mark Knopfler's Shangri-La hybrid SACD is back down to £4.99 at Amazon UK.
