Oh yes they can, but probably not. I guess I must just be weird then.

I tend to dislike wine altogether. I've had plenty of different types, expensive, cheap, white, red, foreign, local. I just dont like the taste of wine, I can get by on Rose wine, but other than that I'm not into the wine scene.

Heck, I dont even like beer. For some reason the smell of beer reminds of dog food.

I'm the other way - wine is great with food.

When not eating, wine is okay, but I'll generally prefer a beer.

Cheers,

Nigel

I'm with you Chadford. I'm not much of a drinker but don't mind the odd glass of red. However, I'd rather drink the wine on its own and eat the food on its own. Then I can appreciate the individual taste of each.

The only exception to this for me is Port and Stilton - a marriage made in heaven IMO data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7

No no no.

But then I'm not really in to food, maybe that has something to do with it.

You must be getting something wrong, because wine should enhance the enjoyment of the food, which in turn should enhance the enjoyment of the wine.

The flavour of the food should never be overpowered by the wine, they should always be complimentary.

Having said that, I can't drink red wine - I love it, but it never fails to give me a headache - I've tried allsorts, but always with the same effect. Therefore, I'm limited to Rosé and White - which can be a bit tricky.

Interestingly, I always thought Rosé wine to be a bit naff, and never touched the stuff. However, after a spending a couple of weeks on the Côte d'Azur, where they seem to drink nothing else, I'm a complete convert. If you find a good one, they can be a smooth as a red, but as light and refreshing as a white. I prefer to have it at room temperature, rather than chilled, which can take the edge off it a little.

In the old days it used to naff as we only seemed to import the 'orrible stuff but in recent years the supermarkets have begun to be a bit more adventurous and now buy some rather nice rosé - although I do prefer mine chilled

I don't like wine at all but especially with food as I too think it takes the taste away (as it burns my mouth).
And no I don't drink vinegar, my grand dad and husband only drink supposedly heavenly stuff.

The only stuff I can bear is a good sauternes or muscat, but again on its own or maybe with cheese/grapes.

Hmm, no I don't think so. I've had many years to get that 'eureka' moment with wine and food - and it just hasn't happened, I much prefer to have a glass of water when eating.
