I was referring to about to expire food, not out of date as that is illegal obviously. I have a choice of 'basic' ranges which often substitute sugar and fat for the good stuff, or the good stuff discounted. It doesn't go to waste and lower income families get to eat quality food, albeit passed it's prime.
The amount of food thrown away is the real scandal. There should be a limit on choice, so there can't be so much duplication. But probably not workable.
Someone asked on twitter the other day 'if my food is marked with todays date is it safe to eat or shall i throw it away' i replied with 'you can safely eat it up until midnight' he favourited my tweet and said 'thanks'
I hope his clock is properly set, hes a gonner if he eats it at five past!
Made some brownies today with very much in date ingredients but when made, they tasted very much out of date....its all so confusing I just want things the way they were..blub blub!

How about opening a jar of pickled onions which says once open refrigerate and consume within 4 weeks.

I was waiting for this....did you ever clean the fridge then put the bottles etc. back in the same spot after cleaning because i have a feeling thats what she does.
Also the seal had been broken,used then wiped so looked like a new bottle.
How was i to know ?
The young lad also ate a fray bentos pie recently that was marked as best before 2011,didn't do him any harm.
